The demand for clean labels has grown due to a rise in consumers’ demand for transparency of the ingredients present in a packaged food product. This paper investigates claims and definitions associated with clean-labeled products which include minimally processed products, no artificial ingredients, non-GMO, fair trade/ethically sourced, and no chemical sounding names.
