New research shows that non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) is now claiming more lives than melanoma

In a groundbreaking study presented at the #EADVCongress, researchers reveal that non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) now claims more lives globally than melanoma, traditionally regarded as the more severe form. Supported by FutureBridge, this research was conducted by the L’Oréal Dermatological Beauty Corporate and Social Responsibility team and La Roche-Posay experts, in collaboration with Professor Thierry Passeron. The study found that in 2020 alone, NMSC accounted for over 63,700 deaths compared to 57,000 from melanoma. Experts warn that this disparity may be even greater due to widespread underreporting of NMSC cases in cancer registries, underscoring the need for heightened awareness and early intervention strategies.
